As many of A4 owners have already known, Audi used a new unique type of bulb for model B8's front turn signals. In a previous few years some third parties have produced replacement LED bulbs for it, though they seemed darker than the original halogen bulb and tagged pretty good prices. At the launch of model B8.5 (MY2013 and later) Audi switched the rear turn signals to LEDs, which made this model look even edgier and more sophisticated. But the front turn signals were left untouched, or maybe I must say they were touched badly, because Audi still adapted halogen bulbs but of another new unique type which I had never, ever seen before. And they seemed to me quite mismatching with LED signals on wing mirrors flashing on and off crisply.
Then this product just came into my sight! This is developed and sold by a Netherland-based shop Retrofitlab.com (http://www.retrofitlab.com). According to the shop, this type of bulb is called PWY24W and it's so new that the shop finally developed the product late last November and started sales then. It is very very likely that this is the first PWY24W LED bulb for turn signal in the world. No wonder I bought a pair for my S4 Avant, MY2014.
My honest impression on this product is WOW. Just WOW. It's far brighter than existing replacement turn signal LED bulbs for B8, and as bright or more than the original halogen bulbs for B8.5. Obviously it's because of 1) high power LEDs by Creek and 2) the top LED under a lens and more LEDs arranged on the side, which are reflected effectively in the head light unit. Another great thing about this product is, it's working without any resister! Just swap bulbs, and it's done! No warning. And of course, it syncs perfectly with LEDs on wing mirrors.
If I may mention something for more consideration, this product radiates good heat after flashing for a few minutes. Actually its body is covered with a heat sink. As far as I use it just as a turn signal, it wouldn't be a problem at all. But if I leave it flashing for several or more minutes as hazard lights (though I would hardly do it), I may be a bit concerned. So if you are very careful, you could keep it in mind. Just in case, I applied clear thermal radiative paint very thinly on the heat sink.
All these stuffs considered, however, I still say this is a great product worth trying. The price is reasonable, the quality is superb, and it's the world's first product after all! Thank you very much Retrofitlab. A toast for your expertise and frontier spirit!
