Cars & Croissants

My friend invited me to a cars & croissants event this past weekend (no, there are no croissants at the event, i think they just use that name to try and distinguish themselves from the usual cars and coffee meets). Unfortunately, my friend couldn't make it himself, so i ended up going by myself. Isaac decided to come with me last minute, so i dragged him along for the ride as well. I wasn't too sure what to expect since this was only my 2nd ever car meet, and first non-RX-7 meet. Turns out, i was the only RX-7 there. When i pulled in to the event, i found a nice spot next to a cool like R35 GTR. Since Isaac is currently really into Lamborghini's, the first car we went to see was the nice Murcielago parked towards the front by itself.

From there, we just walked around looking at a few cars here and there. There were a lot more cars than i expected which was nice because there was quite a variety of cars.

This wouldn't be America without some proper American Muscle

Another American muscle representative:

Here's the new Corvette that i thought was really sleek. I gotta say, if i wasn't so obsessed with Japanese sports cars, i would probably own a Corvette, which in my mind is a real American sports car.

The elusive BMW 1M. The reason i call it elusive is because it's so rare and so few of them that the value of the car has actually gone up since they stopped selling the car. Definitely one of my favorite cars from the show:

This NSX, despite looking mostly stock, was actually sporting a nice Comptech Supercharger. I'm sure this thing hauls a$$ once you open it up. I'd bet it'd make a hell of a track car too.

And of course when Isaac is around, no picture is safe...

This being America and not Japan, most of the cars were mostly stock, so needless to say, my car stuck out like a sore thumb. Although, I was quite surprised by how much attention it got. Almost every time that i looked over, there were a few people gather around the car. Unfortunately, i didn't clean my car before the event so it kind of looked like crap. To be honest, i was actually a little embarrassed by all the attention because of how dirty the car was. Anyway, eventually an NSX pulled up next to me, and a Supra behind. It was nice to have the company of some of my favorite Japanese sports cars. It's too bad the Supra was next to the R35, then i would've been able to get some nice shots of all 4 cars together. Oh well, these will have to do:

Supra in the background

In the end, i'm glad i went. The people were generally friendly and there were plenty of cars to look at. Unfortunately, my time there was cut short because Isaac was bugging me to go home since the minute he stepped foot out of the car! Next time i have to remember to grab my D300 and leave Isaac at home!

ドライブの春

Now that winter is finally over, i organized a spring drive with some friends. Since my body kit is due in soon, this will be the last drive that i do in its current guise. We got an early start to the day by meeting up at 7am at a nearby gas station.

The cars that came on the drive included a BRZ, 2 RX-7s, a G37s, and a BMW 328i. We decided to head out early since traffic is much lighter in the early hours and a lot of the roads we would be hitting were single lane roads, so we didn't want to get stuck behind slower cars. The plan was to take some backroads through the Delaware Water Gap and head up towards High Point State Park since the season hasn't started yet so the park was free, otherwise we would've had to pay $5 per car to get in. Halfway through the Delaware Water Gap i got a message from my brother-in-law about stopping for a bathroom break, unfortunately, there wouldn't be any bathroom for miles, so instead we did what any sensible man would do; pull over onto the side of the road. We took that opportunity to snap a few pics before heading out again.

The last time my car will look like this

The only other RX-7 in our group

My brother-in-law's BRZ

And the G37s

From there, we headed up to High Point and took in the scenery while snapping more pics.

You can actually see clouds below us in the distance in this picture

And here's a random picture of Isaac jumping off the rock. For some reason i really like this action shot of him...makes him look like a ninja:

My brother-in-law tried to do a couple of donuts and drifts but other people started showing up so we had to leave. From there we headed back down the "mountain" and decided it was time for lunch. Unfortunately, the place that i originally wanted to take the guys to, Chatterbox Drive-in, didn't open for another 30 minutes, so we decided to just head towards home and find some fast food place for lunch. At least we got in a couple of nice group shots.

We eventually found a McDonalds on our way home so we stopped for a quick meal before dispersing and heading home.

Although that was the first drive of the year, it was also the last one for a while, because when i got home, i put the car on stands and started disassembling her for the big overhaul. I removed the front bumper, front fenders, rear bumper, and trunk plastics so that once my parts arrive, i can begin test fitting them right away.

And lastly, i picked up some alcantara shift/ebrake boots off a rx7club forum member just because the price was good and i wanted a change. I also swapped out my RE雨宮 D1 Quick Shifter in favor of the shifter that came with the car which i believe is a Mazdaspeed one. The Mazdaspeed one definitely feels a little bit better because the RE雨宮 one felt mushy compared to the Mazdaspeed one which is more clunky, for lack of a better term. It just feels more satisfying to shift with the Mazdaspeed one for some reason. Probably just personal preference. Anyway, here's my new set up...for now:

That's it for now...the next time i post it should be about my new body kit!! Can't wait!!

Damaged

DamagedFor the past week, since July 4th, i've been on vacation. Luckily, i've had the opportunity to take my car out for a couple of nice long drives, roughly 200 miles. On my first drive, as i was following the GPS home, i suddenly found myself on a section of road that was unpaved. For unknown reasons, i stubbornly continued forward rather than making a u-turn and finding an alternate route. I eventually hit a section in the road where the potholes were just too large for me to get past without damaging my car.

So at last, i finally decided that i could no longer move forward and had to backup and make a u-turn. Unfortunately, as i was backing up, i heard a loud crunching sound. I immediately jumped out of the car and ran to the back thinking that my RE雨宮 diffuser was destroyed. To my great surprise, the diffuser was completely intact with no damage. Instead of fully inspecting the car, i decided to get back onto paved road before reinspecting the car again. After i got back onto paved road, i walked around the car and eventually found out my carbon side step on the passenger side was mangled pretty badly. Although i was upset, i knew that it was a piece that would eventually get replaced when i got my RE雨宮 AD GT widebody kit, so i didn't dwell on it too much. Luckily, the carbon pieces were free and i found that with a little tape, the damage is not that noticeable from a distance.

At least i was able to snap a nice picture from the place where my car got damaged.

Delaware Water Gap Drive

Delaware Water Gap DriveOne of my favorite things to do with my FD is explore new roads in my area. I live in New Jersey and when most people think of NJ, they think of the NJ Turnpike or other industrial highways. What most people don't know is that NJ actually has a lot of scenic areas further away from the city. Granted, NJ doesn't have any mountain roads, but if you look around, you'll eventually find some nice lakes and parks, like this one here:

This is a new route that i discovered recently that loops around the western side of NJ towards the NJ/Pennsylvania border. I was really surprised by how nice some of the roads were, and i'm definitely looking forward to going back.

Some roads are little bumpy and uneven, but i guess that's a given when exploring less populated areas.

It's always nice to stop and grab a bite to eat. Of course, hot dogs are an all-American favorite, and this shop, Hot Dog Johnny's, is quite popular for local car and bike enthusiasts:

Well that's it for this post, i'll update more next time on some of the modifications i've made to the car since i bought. Goodnight!
