Dimitris Stasinopoulos is the virtuoso behind
MS Labs, maker of enhanced Megasquirt ECUs specifically developed for the NA and NB Mazda MX-5 Miata. When he's not building ECUs, shipping product or providing technical support to customers around the world, he is finding new ways to push his NB to the limit. One of my favorite things about his car is his steering wheel and instrument panel.
The AiM Sports MXL Pista display keeps Dimitris up to date on RPM, ground speed, water temp, oil pressure, oil temp, lap time. The Innovate Motorsport XD-16 programmable air/fuel ratio gauge reports data from the Innovate Motorsport LC-1 digital wideband "Lambda" O² controller and Bosch sensor.
A custom LED panel is linked through CAN bus to the custom Megasquirt 3 ECU and the buttons/dials on the steering wheel. The LED panel has the following indicators:
LT (left turn)
RT (right turn)
BAT (battery voltage)
CEL (check engine light)
OILP (oil pressure)
BRK (parking brake)
ABS (anti-lock brake telltale)
IMS (immobilizer)
FOG (fog lamps)
LTS (lights)
HDL (headlights)
LC (launch control)
FS (flatshift no-lift shift function)
ST (switch tables)
VM (valet mode)
DL (datalog on)
TC (traction control)
ALS (autolock system)
LINK (on if the CAN bus system fails)
PWR (power)
The buttons on the steering control the above, plus two dials for fuel trim (-15% to +15%) and ignition trim (-9* to +3*), and few more buttons (datalog mark, rain light on/off, rear flood light on/off).
