We installed high thermal insulation windows into our house this March. At that time, we were eligible for the Katsushika Eco subsidy and the Innovative Windows Renovation Program, which covered 75% of the total budget. Although the government took time to process our application for the Innovative Windows Renovation Program, I finally received the acceptance form.
This story is being used for a virtual project assignment in a project management course, which is part of a master's degree program. I created a project charter, stakeholder analysis, resource requirements, project schedule, project cost management, risk register, and project post-mortem. These were fully utilized for the assignment, and I found the application of real-life project scenarios to be intriguing.
Can Agile methodology be applied to construction work? I don't believe traditional Agile methodologies like Scrum are directly applicable to projects involving material installation, followed by sprint reviews and rework. However, the underlying philosophy of Agile can be adapted to various types of projects.
The below is my essay of "Your Agile Organization" for Agile Project Management course.
[Strategic Vision for My Company]
To build an agile organization, a customer-oriented approach is key. This principle is echoed in many companies' slogans, such as "Customer First" or "Customer Satisfaction," which serve as guiding principles both internally and externally. In home improvement, this means being highly responsive to customer needs, preferences and feedback. Additionally, innovation is crucial for gaining recognition and success through continuous improvement in our services. To achieve this, our organizational philosophy must enable flexible operations to rapidly meet customer demands.
[Organizational Structure]
Our organization consists of multiple stakeholders across various teams. We organize cross-functional teams to ensure that these teams bring together diverse skills and experiences. In our organization, every employee plays a key role in making decisions relevant to their work. This decentralized decision-making structure allows us to speed up processes and increase engagement and accountability. As the world is rapidly changing, continuous learning is also important. Sharing knowledge and experiences through a well-structured training process is crucial for the success of both our customers and the company.
[Leadership Style]
Traditional companies are often led by a "boss" who commands obedience from staff, relying on the power of their position rather than true leadership qualities. (You may refer the PMBOK Guide from the Project Management Institute). To foster an innovative organization, we believe servant leadership is the key to success. This involves empowering and supporting our employees to form a strong team focused on providing the necessary tools and resources for success. This active leadership style is always open to listening to their ideas and concerns, fostering professional growth.
