84 Base Motor Works Japan // Fresh VW MK2!

A couple of weeks ago our photographer Shota-San headed down to western district of Niigata, Japan to visit this awesome car shop that goes by the name of 84Base. They specialize in everything Euro, from simple maintenance work to more advanced motor & transmission work. We will be taking a look at one of their shop cars here in the next couple of days which they were more than happy to show off! One of the cars that was parked in front of the shop however was Takeshi-San's beautiful VW Golf MK2. Our photographer Shota-San didn't waste any time and got to work right away!

Photos By: Shota Mori exclusively for StanceNation.com

He had Takeshi-San move the car up the street to get some photos for us. Takeshi-San was more than happy about it since he is actually a fan and a friend of ours. His "Wolfsburg Edition" MK2 is extremely clean especially considering the fact that it's a couple of decades old. We love it!

It's all about the OEM looks to many VW owners and Takeshi-San is no exception. No crazy fender work, no flashy grill, none of that. Everything is pretty original and in great shape including the interior. Hit the Read More button below for about a dozen or so more photos!

A Classoc Nardi wheel with gold spokes, aftermarket CD player and a custom shift knob is pretty much all that this thing is rocking on the inside yet it looks incredible & fresh! When converted from kilometers, it's got about 134K miles as you can see by the photo below.

Gotta love the triple omoni gauges.

Nothing wrong with supporting others and showing love! Right?

Gotta love those freshly built aggressively fitted OZ Sport Wheels. Clean as hell, especially the gold plated bolts. Big ups to Takeshi-San for keeping it so classy!

As we said earlier, it's an extremely clean car all around and it's an honor to show it off on our site. We sure wish we had some specifications on those wheels, tires and coilovers but unfortunately Shota-San didn't get a chance to write that down. Not a problem though if you ask us, pictures speak for themselves.

The day ended with everyone having a great time outside the shop. We will be showing you more of that white MK1 as well as a couple of other cars that 84Base guys have worked on in the next couple of days so stay tuned. Arigato to these awesome gentleman and look out for some VIP madness up next!

Built Not Bought.

Three words: simple, static, sexy. In a nutshell, those three words can describe Brandon Burke’s RB25 Series2 powered 1991 Nissan 240sx. Born and raised in Lancaster, CA, Brandon was only minutes from Willow Springs Raceway and visiting the track all the time encouraged him to mod cars. When Brandon first got in to modding cars, he started off, like most of us all have, a Honda. He’s had an SCCA Miata, a single turbo MkIV Supra, and a few other Hondas. This isn’t his first S13 though. He has had a couple others ranging from a stanced and fitted wide-body coupe to a fully functional drift rocket. He came across a deal he couldn’t pass up on this latest coupe and decided to take his time on it.

Photos By: John Markley & Gus Rivera exclusively for StanceNation.com

Brandon spoke on his goal for the car; “I wanted to blow my own mind with how low it is. I wanted it to be controversial. Hearing people complain about how it’s too low, it scrapes too much and that it was pointless to have the power of an RB motor and not be able to use it is what I wanted to hear. I love the fact that I leave pieces of oil pan, transmission, and frame scattered all around LA County.” Three months in the making, this is how far his latest project has come. Now on to the good stuff!

When Brandon picked up the car, it had the obvious 20 years of use and abuse on the paint and some minor dings and dents. Immediately he stripped everything off the car and went to work! While he was fixing all the dings and blemishes in the body, Brandon decided to shave the windshield spray nozzles, the trunk key-lock, and the rear side markers. A little bit of work was put in to the quarter panels as well to make sure those SSRs fit right. He added a Silvia conversion with Circuit Sport clear headlight covers and JDM amber/clear bumper lights. When all that work was finished, he sprayed the car 51e Subaru Aspen White. To add some contrast to the white, he added some matte black OEM mud flaps, OEM window visors and a matte black JDM OEM USDM EDM Accord front lip. Click the Read More button below to take a look at some more photos and specs of this beauty!

Brandon kept the interior rather simple with a Signal Auto bucket with a Nagisa seat rail, R32 GTR passenger seat, DMax floor mats, Yashio shift boot, Nismo shift knob, NRG quick release steering hub, a Nardi Classic Steering wheel and an Autometer boost gauge.

Under the hood is a Series 2 RB25 installed with a Syko mount kit, Greddy intake manifold, Apexi intake, McKinney FMIC and piping, Q45 throttle body, ATP manual boost controller Power FC, Walbro 255 fuel pump, and a custom 2.5 inch exhaust with a 12 inch resonator. He installed a Spec Stage 3 clutch, Driveshaft shop 1 piece driveshaft, and an R32 GTR VLSD to harness the RB power.

To bring all this together and dump the car to the ground, Brandon installed a set of Fortune Auto 500 series coilovers, Fortune Auto toe-rods, Megan tension rods, tie-rod ends, rear upper control arms, and traction rods. The combo allowed for his SSR Professor SP1s to fit beautifully. Specs on the wheels and tires are 17x9 -1 up front and a 17x9.5 -8 wrapped in 205/40 17 and 215/40 17 Federal 595s.

Brandon isn't quite sure what his future plans are. He fell in love with it the first time he rolled it out of the garage after all this work was done, so we'll see what the future holds. We can be sure that whatever it is, it will be just as thought out and amazing as what we see here! We hope you enjoyed the photos and make sure you email us at snfeatures@gmail.com if you think your ride has what it takes to be on our site!

Brandon wanted to give a huge shout out to Tony Crispin who did all the body prep work and his fellow friends/photographer John Markley and Gus Rivera! Hope you enjoy this last shot!

Rough & Tough.

There is "clean" and there is "rough". Pretty obvious what Jared's 240SX would be listed under. Yup, rough & raw all the way! It seems like it's the complete opposite of our last feature. It all started about two and a half years ago when Jared picked up a shell of this '89 240SX. During the build he ran into many obstacles. Fact that it was an '89, he had to be careful when dissembling everything. One of the first issues he ran upon was when his friend Raymond accidentally snapped the bolt holding the rear subframe. The only way to fix that was to remove the broken bolt and weld on an equivalent sized, but they got it done. And so the issues began, but before we get into that let's take a look at some photos that our Arizona based photographer Dax Rodriguez captured!

strong>Photos By: Dax Rodriguez exclusively for StanceNation.com

We are loving the color combo on this thing especially down in the bay. It all started at a local drift event when the wiring harness decided it didnt want to live anymore and caught fire inside the wheel well which eventually led to a complete wire tuck. The hardest part of the tuck was that having pop-up headlights and insisting on keeping AC as this is Jared's daily driver out in Arizona. With the help of his friend Vitaly the wire tuck happened and soon after Jared decided to do a complete tear down and rebuild of the engine bay. He went with a candy purple color for the bay and a thought of adding in some bars and gussets would add some style. While the motor was out he figured he could use a little more power so he decided it was time to go top mount! While he was at it he also got rid of the mid-mount intercooler due to heat soaking instead he went with the stock SR fan shroud with a RB25 clutch fan.

Since most of you are here for "stance & fitment" why don't we take a closer look at that. While Jared is waiting on his new set of wheels to arrive from Japan, he is currently rocking a set of Gram Lights 57D in hot pink! They are 18x9.5 with 12 offset all around with 20mm spacers up front and 25mm spacers in the rear. for the suspension, Jared turned to PBM pro coilovers & PBM solid subframe risers along with CZP suspension arms and a fully seam welded chassis. He finally finished everything with Z32 brake calipers (front & rear) along with Z32 rotors & SG break/clutch lines. You can enjoy more awesome photos by clicking the Read More button under the photo below.

Interior features a Bride Gias low max with Bride seat rail & NRG quick release wheel/hub. It's also rocking a Cusco 8pt bolt in cage (painted candy purple) with Greddy boost controller, Greddy 60mm gauges (oil press, oil/water temp.), DEFI red racer boost gauge, HKS turbo timer and an Ice cold AC which Jared seems to be really proud of, though we would be too if this was our daily driver in a 100+ degree summer heat!

Finally the exterior. That banged up and zip tied front bumper may not tickle your fancy much but it means everything to those who live their life sideways. The entire BN Type 2 Kit looks absolutely awesome to us! Jared is rocking the 40mm Origin fenders up front and 50mm Origin fenders in the rear along with the sexy Kouki tail lights. The days that Jared does have a hood on, he runs a vented one by D-Max which we love very much!

With that said, we would like to give a huge shout out to Dax and Jared for making this feature happen. Jared also wanted to give a huge shout out to his Team Top Flight friends for giving him a helping hand. Also, a huge thanks to COZ at ConceptzPerformance for many parts in this build. Last but not least, Pit Stop Performance as well. Feel free to shoot us an email at snfeatures@gmail.com if you think you've got a ride that deserves a feature!

Not your typical...

Everybody knows that it's almost impossible to do something that hasn't already been done before, but what you can do is do it better than anyone in the past. How you define "better" is up to you, but what we are specifically talking about here is "stance & fitment". Not many people would ever consider doing what Thomas did with his NSX and don't even get us started with the purists. We're positive that most of them will be grinding their teeth as soon as they see these photos. Our plan is not to spill the beans just yet since we will be taking a closer look at this amazing NSX along with many more photos and detailed specifications soon hopefully. Today however we'll leave you with these older photos shot by our photographer Tony Hoang!

Thomas' coil over equipped Acura NSX sits on a set of concave ADV.1 wheels. When standing next to the car, top of the roof is literally below your waist line. We can only imagine the looks that Thomas gets when he takes this thing out! Let's call it a day for now and wait for some recent photos and full list of mods for now. Big shout out to Thomas for not only doing something different but actually pulling it off so well! If you want to see more of these awesome photos that Tony took make sure you click the Read More button below. It'll be well worth your time. We're still amazed how "fresh" such an old car can manage to look!
