22日のバンプ・デーで、予選落ちとなったAndretti Autosportのライアン・ハンター・レイだが、A.J. Foyt Enterprisesのブルーノ・ジュンケイラのマシンを駆りインディ500決勝レースに出場すると

インディ500のルールでは、マシンを決勝進出を決めた後でもドライバーを変更することが可能で、スポンサーに対しても申し訳が立たないとオーナーのマイケル・アンドレッティは、A.J・フォイトにハンターレイをA.J. Foyt Enterprisesから出場できないか打診し決まった模様

ライアン・ハンター・レイは、昨年17戦中12戦でトップ10入りし、第４戦ロングビーチではチームに初優勝をもたらすなど活躍

A.J・フォイトは「I know this is not the first time this has happened in Indy 500 history but I feel terrible for Bruno and I thank him for his efforts and I hope he understands. It’s cool to be driving for A.J. again, especially with Michael’s support and encouragement. This is not how I envisioned the month of May this year but we are still committed to winning this race for DHL and Sun Drop」とコメント

また、ブルーノ・ジュンケイラも「I have to thank AJ, Larry and the team for giving me this opportunity to drive at Indy this year because otherwise I would have been riding my bike in Miami」「I always respected AJ before, but after working with him I respect him even more」と・・・

実力のあるドライバーが予選落ちすると言うのも、インディ500独特の予選ゆえに起こる事なんすよねぇ

でも、他チームから決勝レースに出場するなんて、F-1では考えられない事っすよね(￣０￣;)!!
