1) Oil change at 5k km (3k miles)
5000km毎のオイル交換
2) Good oil quality . Good viscosity values at 100 celicious ,but also - and more important - at cold situation. We suggest Castrol edge 5w 40 ( acea c3 meets fiat demands).Caution at replicas.
3) Proper oil temperatures while driving and before shutting down. Optimal oil temperature is 60-110 celsious. Before reaching 60 c , drive real smoothly. Do not shut down if oi temp is below 60 c. Cold oil cannot flow correctly and has reduced lubricating ability. Also cold oil cannot return easily and may create deposits . So if you drive mostly at city , take care pushing a bit to help oil warm up. If oil exceeds 120 c , cool it down. Burnt oil creates a lot of deposits. If you do track days a lot, install an oil cooler ( but with thermostat at 60 c)
4) Do not be over-protective. slow driving and low rpm driving for too long, creates oil deposits. Use the whole rev range and full power of engine randomly. This doen't mean you can push the engine at limits constantly.
5) 90% of failures happen between 80k-120k km. If you follow these directions you decrease a lot the chances of a possible failure( up to 50%). That one refers on the mechanical part of unit. A possible failure at 1 of 4 solenoid valves is clearly a matter of luck.
6) All failures so far refer on multiair I (1rst gen) . FCA claims that multiair II solved the problem . Indeed the improved oil lines , but the results will prove their claims. If you face a unit failure make sure the new one you will install is the correcr part number (multiair II).
