いや、ホイール、サスペンション交換してようやく「車」になったというか、「自動車」になったというか、「人が運転する車」になったというか。とにかくそんな感じです。
購入時、総走行距離2万キロ以下と当時では破格の上品でしたが、既にサスペンションが抜けていたのか、そもそもこんな乗り心地なのか、筆舌にし難い乗り心地は高速道路では繋ぎ目に合わせてハンドルを持っていく、ワインディングではギャップに応じてハンドルを持っていく(右に曲がってるのに完全に左に持っていく)、下道では水溜まりに、轍に、コンビニの入口の段差でハンドルを持っていき、車が潰れるような音を演出しておりました。ふざけているのか。
犯人はサスペンション、と言いたいところですが残念ながら複数犯の犯行。純正タイヤがグリップの無さとサイドウォールの硬さから最悪のロードインフォメーションを提供。重たい純正ホイールが純正クソタイヤの変更を許さず、長期に渡って手厚いクソ環境の固定に貢献、クソ純正クソサスペンションが「当たりは強く、後は流れで(クソデカロール)」という相撲業界の膿を思わせるハンドリングでドライバーを感動させます。なんだこのクソ足回り。

逆に言えば複数犯のコンビネーションで発揮されるハンドリングなので、どれか1つでも変更すれば劇的に乗り味を改善することが出来ます。まず足回りから「純正」の2文字を排除しましょう。ホイールは探せば幾らでもあります。それに合わせ新型の、グリップも転がり抵抗も静粛性も格段に良く、値段も安い今どきのタイヤにしましょう。それだけで随分と変わります。だって世界で1番素直な、ロータス謹製アルミバスタブフレームなのですから全ての改善を余すことなく、ドライバーに伝えてくれます。その中でも、1番大きな改善案はサスペンション交換であることは最後に述べておきます。

Bodywork. This has been restored, and properly detailed to a better than new standard, the front clam got completely painted as did the sills, the rest of the paint has been fully renovated to like I say better than new standard. Front clam and sills have been fully venture shielded with PPF. Every nut and bolt has been replaced with stainless steel to ensure longevity and future removal will be easier. All the black grills have been bead blasted and repainted gloss black. Any bodywork brackets have been replaced and rebounded to the body again to ensure longevity. New Europa logos have been specially made.
Chassis. While all the bodywork was off, all the suspension components, and chassis got treated to a deep clean, this has come up like new. The floor and under trays have been cleaned and polished.
Engine. The Europa started life with a Vauxhal Z20 LER turbo charged unit, but I have replaced it with a LEH unit out of a VXR, better because it has stronger forged pistons, under piston spray jet cooling and no balance shaft so more responsive. My particular engine has been rebuilt, consisting of full rebore with 0.5 larger Woosner piston, PEC steel rods, and piper valve springs, this engine is capable of 500 BHP. External parts are K06 Hybrid turbo, EDS inlet manifold with VXR injectors, enlarged tophat and boost pipes, 80mm inlet pipes with 80mm MAF, AEM air filter, high flow AEZ fuel pump, PRO Alloy charge cooler system, 76mm full Chris Tullet exhaust system, new sensors and high temp Bosch plugs. Courtenays sport have mapped it to a respective 330HP and when I mean its fast it’s very fast.
Gearbox. M32 Gearbox, has been stripped and all the bearings checked, new seals, gaskets and oil fitted. benefit of a quick shift selector mated with new genuine gear cables.
Clutch. Originally all Europa's had a 228mm Zafira unit which is known for slipping so I have Replaced with a VXR LUK fast road 240mm Plate, cover, bearing and flywheel, no slippage, great bite and no heavier than the original clutch.
Radiator. New unit with all new pipes, and clips, Aircon system has been replaced with new condenser, pump pipes and fully charged up.
Brakes. The fronts have been stripped and rebuilt with new, seals, cover and nipples, the rears got professionally exchanged due to the troublesome handbrake. Custom made 308mm front discs and alloy bells and custom made 288m rear discs with alloy bells unique to his Europpa new stainless braded hoses and new handbrake cables with an Exige 4 channel ABS unit.
Suspension. All suspension has been removed, bead blasted, zinc galv sprayed and wet painted, I choose wet painting as it can be touched up if it gets chipped marked etc, new bearings, bushes drop links as well as Nitron Street series springs and shocks. Updated Exige Anti roll bar and bushes. New hubs and ABS sensors with Spitfire toe links.
Wheels. Standard Europa wheels, painted Mars Gold (Lotus Colour) with new wheel bolts. 150 mile use Nankang NS2R medium compound tires.
Interior. This was fully stripped and cleaned, new professionally trimmed red carpets with Lotus supplied motorsport seats with red embroiled Europa logo, added oil temperature and oil pressure gauges with gauges selected to match the original dash. Sony bluetooth headunit. Custom red seat belts and custom red door card inserts and steering wheel trimmed to match.
