After a long absence I write here again. Now the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi is approaching. Today is 40 days before the opening. Different from the last time in Vancouver, in which the only train talk was the social experiment of the light rail system using a line of tourist tram, the games in Sochi are rich in railway topics.

お久しぶりです. いよいよソチ五輪が近づいてきました. 今日は開会40日前でしたね. 観光用トラムの軌道を使った LRT の社会実験くらいしか話題のなかったヴァンクーヴァーと違って, 今回は鉄道ネタも豊富です.

As you know, Japan's Shinkansen was built in a hurry in order to meet the Olympic Games in 1964. Also in Russia, though it is not a high-speed line, all the tracks from Moscow to Adler station, which is the gateway to Sochi and Krasnodar region, were renovated to a high standard. Then on this rail, Russia's first bilevel sleeper train began to run.

日本の新幹線が1964年の五輪に間に合わすべく建設されたことは知られています. ロシアでも高速路線でこそありませんが, モスクワからソチの玄関口アドレル駅までの全線で軌道が高規格に改良され, ロシアで初となる二階建て寝台列車が投入されています.

Adler station, Olympic village and Sochi International Airport are connected by the newly built suburban transportation, which is called Sochi Aeroexpress. It was originally planned as Sochi Light Metro, Russia's latest metro, but different from the old Soviet-styled metros familiar in other Russian cities. However the project was scaled down and the underground system was given up. The railway on ground began the service from 2012. Bombardier's "Spacium"-based suburban rail vehicles are now in service.

アドレル駅からオリンピック村を経てソチ国際空港までは, アエライェクスプリェスと呼ばれる新しい輸送機関が結びます. もともとはソチ・ライトメトロとして計画され, おなじみの旧ソ連風メトロと一線を画した, ロシア最新の地下鉄になる予定でしたが, 計画が縮小され地上の鉄道として開通したもの. ボンバルディエのスパシウムをベースに新造された車両が投入されています.

In addition Sylvain Dufour, the SNCF staff working at Strasbourg station, will participate in the Olympic Games as the Alpine snowboarder representing France. He is expected to win a medal. Why not support him, rail fans ?

さらに今回の五輪には, ストラスブール駅勤務の SNCF 職員(つまり駅員さんですね), シルヴァン・デュフールさんがスノーボード・アルペン競技のフランス代表として出場します. メダルも期待されるとのこと. 鉄な皆さん, 応援しましょう.
