フォード・スコーピオ (Scorpio)

フォード・スコーピオ (Scorpio) So... I agreed to buy another car. Luckily, this one is a joint purchase with a friend. This is just a catalog photo, I haven't got any photos of the real car yet, but I'll take some later. It looks similar to this one though. And it was cheap!

I don't think this car was sold in Japan, it's a Ford Scorpio. This is an executive car with FR layout, the largest size European Ford (at the time). It's also the Estate (Wagon) model.

However, the unusual point is the engine, the top specification 2.9L Cosworth V6 24V with 207ps! The gearbox is 4AT (the 2.9L engine always has an automatic). For such a big car, it's quite fast.

The styling is quite strange, some people didn't like it when the car was new and called it the "Frog Face" Scorpio. I think it looks unusual, but I like it.

Hmm...I've never seen in Japan. In that era I remember Telstar, Laser, Taurus and Mondeo very well because Mazda's Autorama was selling ford brand cars. At that time Ford cars might be a rare brand, though, due to the location where I was born and grew, I had many chance to meet those models. Oh yes, Hiroshima had many Festiva Mini Wagon and Freda, too!

Strangely, we never received the Festiva. Butwe did get the same car badged as the
Mazda 121! It seems the range in Japan at
the time was a combination of models
from Japan, USA and Europe.

I'm familiar with the Freda too. I deal with a
car dealer who imports the Bongo Friendee,
but sometimes he gets the Freda.

Scorpio!!
I and this car were very worrisome and it was sometimes investigating.
To be sure, the second generation Scorpio had trouble only with it not being imported by Japan but collecting data.
Then, or [ having got to know Scorpio with what ] ....
The police drama made in Germany
"Alarm Fur Cobra 11" was a cause.

I'm familiar with this TV show, but I have
never seen it. It seems nearly every car sold
in Europe has crashed in it.

I`m happy to meet you.

I`ve never heard of "Frog Face".
Surely the styling looks funny but is not bad for me.
It reminds me of Toyota Sprinter Caribe of rounding face model,by the way.

I`ve hardly seen even other Ford cars in Tokyo.
Focus and Festiva had been ever relatively seen but now I haven`t.
It`s a bit difficult to find car dealers here in Tokyo where I live.
No wonder Ford is rare here in Japan though I don`t know about Hirosihma.

Scorpio may be not stylish for most customers but its users seem to cherish this lovely Frog for a long time.
I`m interested in its Cosworth model.
It`s surprising that this one is faster than my previous car.
Just kidding.

Primera!

I like the styling. It's unusual, but I think it
looks good.

Ford cars are very popular here, but the
Scorpio is rare because it was expensive
to buy new and many people didn't like the
styling. This was the last large executive
type car sold by Ford in Europe.

The Cosworth engine is a chain-driven
Quad Cam with 24V. Even though it has
been tuned for smooth riding, it is still
very powerful. Some people use this engine
for racing too.
