先日嫁さんがロッド・スチュワートの新譜とエルトン・ジョンと誰かのコラボ・アルバムが聴きたいと言いだした。

「誰かって、誰？」と聞いてみると

「白髪の髭おやじ」との答え。

大方朝ナマで小倉さんが紹介したのだろうと思い、早速調べてみました。
「誰か」とはレオン・ラッセルで、先月エルトン・ジョンとの共作で『The Union』というアルバムをリリースしていました。
レオン・ラッセルって久し振りに聞く名前です。
彼は私が洋楽を聴き始めた10代の頃から活躍していましたが、当時既に〝じじい〞だったようなイメージがあります。年齢を調べると今年で68歳。
と言うことは、当時はまだ30代だったのですね。

嫁さんのリクエスト通り、昨日ロッド・スチュワートの『Fly Me to the Moon』とエルトン・ジョン&レオン・ラッセルの『The Union』を入手しました。 『The Union』のジャケに写っているレオン・ラッセルはすっかり本物の〝じじい〞になっていました。

2枚を聴いてみた感想ですが、ロッドのアルバムは個人的には思いっ切りつまらなかったのですが、『The Union』は意外にと言うか、かなり好みの音でした。
落ち着いたなかに〝そこはかとなく〞ロックしている様が妙に心地良いアルバムでした。
