2C-TL Turbo Diesel Engine Rebuild - Part 1

The 2C-T Turbo Diesel engine of the CV11 Camry was running very poorly due to no compression from one cylinder. There were oil leaks everywhere and the car had many exhaust leaks. The entire car was in need of serious restoration!

I removed the 2C-T engine with A140L automatic transaxle as one assembly using this heavy-duty OTC engine hoist, made in USA.

This image is a closeup of the engine bay mess! There was diesel soot, grease, and oil everywhere. The battery tray was rusted out and missing pieces. It would take a lot of cleaning, preparing, and repainting to get the engine bay looking good again!

The thick, built-up oil sludge is clearly visible around the leaking turbo oil hoses and vacuum pump hoses and fittings.

This view shows the 2C-T engine from the timing belt side, with power steering pump still mounted. The upper and lower plastic timing belt covers have been removed. The center timing belt cover is steel and is used to attach the right side engine mount.

All timing belt covers removed. The timing gear on the left drives the camshaft and the gear on the right drives the diesel injection pump.
