Saints Row 5 Release Date Sooner Than Expected

We’ve all heard of Saints Row, and we all love Saints Row. This is a series loved by millions of people. Even if the series started as a clone of the GTA game, it worked really hard for people to acknowledge it. Most people got to know it when it was released across multiple platforms. The story is very catchy, and the activities and missions are really creative.

After the 4th game got released, people started to believe that maybe the developer forgot what made the game so great, and sales were not that great.

Why was the spin-off not that great?
There was also a spin-off called Agents of Mayhem, that is part of the Saints Row universe. The title didn’t really impress the critics and the fans, and this is why Deep Silver, the publisher of the series, may have wanted to stop future projects for some time. Volition, which is the developer of the game did not comment on this matter. Many believe that this happened due to the former publisher going bankrupt.

The publisher of the game was all hyped about Agents of Mayhem, and it makes the title look like the next big thing. However, the ties with the original games aren’t really there. Then poor sales happened, and there was a lot of pressure on Volition since their studio might need to get closed.

The company has not developed a new Saints Row game ever since an expansion in 2015. The lack of a good story mode was what made the spin-off so bad. Hence, people aren’t interested in Saints Row anymore.

However, there’s still hope that Saints Row 5 will be developed at some time, and that it’s all a secret for now. The community is still active, that’s for sure.

Saints Row Director Thinks It’s Time Series Returns

The last anyone had seen of the Boss in the Saints Row franchise, he had defeated Zinyak and effectively became the new emperor of the Zin empire. While he was already one of the best fictitious presidents in video games, the last installment in this open-world action-adventure franchise saw the Boss turn it up a notch, but since, he has been missing in the video games industry.

Scott Phillips, one of the men behind the Boss, has since moved onto Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but the Saints Row director was recently asked about the franchise in an interview. Although it was a rapid-fire interview about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, Phillips was asked, “You directed Saints Row the Third. Do you think that series needs more time before it comes back?”

Phillips’ answer was in support of the franchise, with the director replying, “It’s been quite a few years…uh, I think it would be good if it came back.” It’s worth mentioning that the Saints Row franchise has returned to THQ Nordic since it recently acquired Deep Silver, the publisher behind Saints Row IV and Agents of Mayhem.

If the series did make a comeback, it would likely excite fans of the series that distinguished itself in its genre with its astute outlandishness, and it certainly seems possible since the developers at Volition have been rather hush-hush. Notably, THQ Nordic is also launching Darksiders III in a few months’ time, which may open up a slot for Saints Row 5.

Of course, there is no evidence that Saints Row 5 is in development, but many may also agree with Phillips that the franchise needs to return. Even though Volition wanted to try its hand with a new IP and explained why it chose it over another Saints Row sequel at E3 2017, it’s safe to say another sequel would be well-received by many, if it was done right. But, of course, fatigue for the franchise may have set in for many others as well. Tell us, Ranters, would you be interested in Saints Row 5?

「ゲームで防災力アップ」神戸市消防局がソフト開発に協力

ゲームで防災力を高めてもらおうと、神戸市消防局は昨年11月に発売されたソフト「絶体絶命都市4Plus」の一部を監修した。地震や火災から命を守る方法が身につく内容で、災害時に役立つマニュアルも備える。シリーズ4作目で、累計約68万本を売り上げ、業界では「ヒット作」という。2016年の熊本地震の際は「ゲームが役に立った」と評判に。より正確な情報を発信するため、市消防局がアドバイスすることになった。

　開発したのはゲーム会社「グランゼーラ」（本社・石川県野々市市）。チーフプロデューサーの九条一馬さんが「災害をテーマにした映画や漫画はあるのに、ゲームはない」と気づき、02年に家庭用ゲーム機「プレイステーション」用に「絶体絶命都市」を発売した。誤った情報を伝えないよう、15年発売の3作目からは防災の専門家の監修を受けて内容を充実させた。

　16年4月の熊本地震で、このソフトの利用者がツイッターで「ゲームのおかげで冷静に対処できた」とつぶやき、評判が広がった。学生時代、このゲームをした経験のある神戸市消防局の広報担当者が見つけ、翌月に協力を申し出た。

　4作目の最新作は、主人公が真夏のオフィス街で大地震に遭ったとの想定。多くのビルが倒壊、火災が発生。道路や鉄道が寸断されて家に帰れず、食料や水も不足する中、他の被災者と協力し、1週間を生き延びるシナリオだ。さまざまな課題に対し、300以上の防災マニュアルを手に入れながら、解決していく。

　市消防局は、マニュアルのうち4分の1を監修。「服に引火した時は、走り回らずに地面で寝転がるようにして消すとよい」「夜間にヘリコプターから救助されやすくするため、スマートフォンの明かりをかざす」などの情報を提供した。1995年1月の阪神大震災で救助活動をした隊員の手記もマニュアルに収録されている。

　ゲームと連動した、スマートフォン向け無料アプリ「絶体絶命都市防災マニュアル」も作成され、約80のマニュアルが読める。市消防局は「若者たちが正しく知識を学べるよう、役立ててほしい」と話している。
