Russian professor cries watching video of himself dumping lover’s limbs into river

A Russian professor who beheaded his lover — and then planned to commit suicide dressed as Napoleon Bonaparte — cried in court Monday as he watched surveillance footage of himself dumping her body parts, a report said.

St. Petersburg State University teacher Oleg Sokolov — a 63-year-old renowned Napoleon historian and reenactor — has admitted to gunning down student-turned-gal pal Anastasia Yeshchenko, 24, in his home last week, authorities said.

The victim had told her brother in a tearful phone call before her murder that Sokolov was jealous because she wanted to go to a friend’s birthday party, according to the news outlet Crime Russia.

The victim told her sibling that Sokolov had kicked her out of his apartment, where she had been living with him, but that she needed to return to collect her things. When she did return Thursday, Sokolov killed her, cops said.

The co-leader of an Armenian street gang was sentenced Monday to nearly 18 years behind bars for multiple federal racketeering crimes, including a debit-card-skimming operation that siphoned more than $1 million from customers of 99 Cents Only stores across the Southland.

Mher “Mike” Darbinyan, 44, formerly of Valencia, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner to pay $170,000 in fines and restitution to the victimized financial institutions. According to court papers, he faces deportation to his native Armenia once he is released from prison.

Darbinyan was found guilty in Los Angeles federal court five years ago of more than four dozen criminal counts, including bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and was sentenced to a 32-year prison term.

The gang reportedly formed in East Hollywood in the 1980s. Prosecutors said Darbinyan arrived in Los Angeles from Armenia when he was 14 and rose through the gang’s ranks until reaching the position of leader.

Ford considers closing two Russian plants

Москва (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co is considering closing two plants in Russia as part of its global plan to restructure operations in unprofitable regions, three industry sources told Reuters.

If the closures go ahead, Ford would probably produce only light commercial vehicles in Russia, two sources said.

After running up fourth-quarter losses in all regions outside North America, Ford is making cuts in Europe, closing down vehicle lines in South America and laying off thousands of workers in China.
