室蘭署巡査長、酒気帯び運転容疑で書類送検

　道警は１１日までに、道交法違反（酒気帯び運転）の疑いで、室蘭署刑事１課巡査長横山聡容疑者（２９）を書類送検し、同日付で停職６カ月の懲戒処分にした。同容疑者は容疑を認めており、１２日付で依願退職する。

　送検容疑は１０月２０日午前１時４０分ごろ、札幌市厚別区厚別中央１の５の道道で、酒気を帯びた状態で乗用車を運転した疑い。

　道警監察官室によると、横山容疑者は２０日未明に酒気帯び運転の現行犯で逮捕され、２１日の釈放後は在宅で捜査を受けていた。逮捕時は勤務時間外で実家へ帰省するため札幌市内におり、前日夜から居酒屋などで友人とビール１杯やワイン５杯などを飲んだという。

　道警監察官室の尾辻英一室長は「事実に基づき厳正に処分した。再発防止と信頼回復に努めたい」とのコメントを出した。

Subaru Levorg, Bold New Station Wagon

The Levorg's chiseled looks and updated technology could reach our shores on other Subaru models, but, sadly, probably not in this form.

One look at the Subaru Levorg, which debuted today at the Tokyo auto show, will have people taking notice of its heavily creased bodywork. It will also have some of them wiping away tears—at least if they live in America—because this second generation of the sporty station wagon still won't be coming to the U.S. of A.

For those who have never heard of this peculiarly named Subaru, here's a quick history lesson. The company first introduced the Levorg at the 2013 Tokyo auto show. Its name was derived from the words Legacy, Revolution, and Touring, but don't ask us to how the marketing people made sense of that one. Since then, the Levorg has lived as the longroof version of the last-generation Impreza and the current WRX—exclusively sold overseas, of course.

While it's disappointing that America misses out on another enthusiast-oriented station wagon, the all-new Levorg should provide some clues about what to expect from future U.S.-bound Subaru models, especially the highly anticipated next-gen WRX. Most notably, the Levorg now rides on the Subaru Global Platform, which currently underpins the Impreza as well as several other, newer Subaru models. Since the WRX still sits on an obsolete architecture, it's only a matter of time until that transition happens. When it does, we hope it includes the Levorg's bold design language.
