Japanese singer Noriyuki Makihara gets suspended sentence for drug possession

TOKYO -- The Tokyo District Court on Aug. 3 handed Japanese singer-songwriter Noriyuki Makihara a two-year sentence, suspended for three years, for drug possession.

Makihara, 51, was indicted for violating the Stimulants Control Act and Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act for having in his possession 0.083 grams of stimulants in April 2018 at the apartment where he lived in the capital's Minato Ward, and the "popper" drug Rush at his current home in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward and elsewhere in March 2018 and February 2020.

The defendant admitted to the allegations during the first day of his trial on July 21.
