11AD steering gearbox oil leak

Oil leak observed in steering gear box equipped on air-cooled VW Super Beetle obliged me to replace them by myself. This kind of obligation is not always a matter for troublesome but a good fun for geriatric. It must be trifle and small job for a professional engineer to do that, consulting the standard and ordering the parts---. Complete amateur who is an outsider could do that if the tools and instrument are prepared with the will to try and establish the work?

As the first step, scail the actually, outer and inner diameter of an oil seal, height is not permissible till removed. Standard size table revealed that both of the sized oil seal had 8mm height only. Even 50 years later after production, standard of the part is not changed. Consequently, oil seal parts would be ordered today as usual.

Remembering the past over 30 years ago, some professional engineer said to me that keeping a air-cooled VW might be a good fun to enjoy residual life of a geriatric---it is to the point!
