Golden Age Meeting report

Golden Age Meeting reportBecause of the reason as shown in the picture, PILOT Fighter could not take off at the moment of competition. Incredible critically destructive phenomena happened on the elevator servo. Anyway, Fighter could escape from being destroyed by falling down, it is a profitable luckiest result in the disaster.
Some chemical smell and smoke were observed while checking in the working room after coming home. Any circuitry shorting must be happening in the servo controlling amplifier. Now is the time to resign to use any third party servo however cheaper they might be. I cannot pretend not to see the miserable results considering the cheep prices, it's no meaning to use an unreliable devices if I count out my own time and effort, above all, it's very dangerous to fly uncontrollable model airplane among the watching people.
The smaller and the cheaper devices, the less reliable for a model airplane in the air.
The score of meeting yesterday and the day before yesterday was 6th grade in 12 applicants. I think it was not good but not so bad, because the competitive airplanes were all for stunt designed low wing ones except mine. In another words, PILOT Ace B is high wing trainer model, even with this unsuitable trainer airplane could obtain middle class achievement as a matter of fact.
Ace B played a part of inconvenient Fighter well.
I'm going to participate in the competitions in future even in the tournament held in a bit far away.
As my big surprise, I could meet with an old friend since 55 years ago, I was a elementary school boy and he was a Japanese Self Defense Personnel at that time, of course he is a retired veteran now.

Dental treatment & preparation for the meeting

A distal root canal of my right lower first molar has filled at last today, the dentist showed how successfully the clinical procedure has been done showing some restricted X-Ray films. Though I believe in his clinical technique so well, my stress is saturated at the highest point with plateau phenomena especially when some itching stimulation was provided onto the tip of the root. Anyway I get out of the dentist's exhausted however pretty para dental stuffs might say something to me in order to scatter my concentration on the tooth. Doctors and Police are the place never to visit except any emergency.

About the Golden Age Radio Control model airplane meeting held a few days later, preparation is almost ready, not so good but not so bad.
Slow fuel mixture should be set at the leanest position avoiding the specific richer condition of turning spin maneuver caused by centrifugal effect. When the fuel tank is positioned at lower point from a saggital view, inverted spinning maneuver makes considerably richer atmosphere.
And the main needle valve angular position is so set at richest position as considering the closing and tightening phenomena occurring in the later half and rising up leaning condition, sometimes 4 cycle operation on the 2 cycle motor might be acceptable to satisfy the mentioned requirements.

Maintenance

MaintenanceThough I can't explain what's that, I felt the disharmony that somehow feel on the operation of OS 32 SX motor while the flight today. Careful observation led me to the important point, rubber mounting, all the screws were too loose to support the motor enough, a mentioned inconvenience thoroughly disappeared after tightening. PILOT Ace B is prepared to attend the meeting now.

PILOT Fighter destroyed few days ago has repaired and the test flight was performed today. Break-in procedure gains power more and more as ENYA 20 motor, just a little bit more additional procedure is required to draw maneuver more freely like Ace B with OS 32 motor. Something black is contained in the exhaust oil still now.

The sequelae by the main bearing rust remains on YS 45 FR motor, the bearing inner lace and crank shaft would slip and some substantial deficit may be caused if I continue to use this motor without replacing bearings.
Main bearing replacement would be performed from now. The exhaust oil is not always clean and clear like the good conditioned motor shows, something must be wrong?

Though the hottest season as it is now, starting flight at 6 early in the morning and close around 9 is the best way to train myself, no other flyer comes and no interrupt happens, in addition, the strength of the wind air flow is very little, so the bad flight habit is easy to understand and adjust it.

Trouble

TroubleThe cause of strange phenomena was found out when the motors were replaced from OPS to OS, one of 4 mounting insulator was destroyed and the motor mount was supported by 3 points instead of 4 ones. Strange noise was discerned occasionally and the reaction by the elevator action had strange habit.
Wooden propeller that has some crack in radial direction causes very strange and destructive noise, just unendurable noise, it was the first experience in 55 years life in this field, anyway, even now, I have new findings whenever I come to the flying place, arrived at 6 early in the morning and finished around 9.
Tomorrow I would do the same, as long as my energy continues.

OPS 60 motor would be continued on some different opportunity and the motor was changed into OS MAX 60 FSR, ring version not ABC.

YS 45 FR motor had some rust in crank shaft supporting main bearing, 4 days leaving untouched caused this critical phenomena, probably because of mismatching of Tuned Pipe setting. I'll check this tomorrow. Getting accustomed to the condition of Tuned Pipe, some extension and prolonging the distance is required on the way of use, this is one of a common sense in this field.

Preparation for participating the meeting at the end of this month at Hyogo Pref., my training for drawing maneuver pattern is almost finished, PILOT Ace B would be applied for the purpose on the day, OS 32 motor operates very well pulling enough to the vertical direction.

Compression ratio

Compression ratioItalian made model engines are often so designed to be used under low Nitro-Methane or straight fuel, so compression ratio is high. Too high compression causes detonation if some high methane fuel is used.
In order to obtain smoother combustion, applied I 0.20 thickness adjusting shim as usual. Rotational smoothness and good combustion exhaust note would be obtained if the balancing of motor operation would be established.
Also, Center of Gravity without a spinner and the front cowl has re-adjusted by putting some weight just behind of the motor.

PILOT Fighter has repaired and also, dihedral angle of main wing was reduced into Zero degree while motor hi and straight flight. Residual brake-in procedure would be continued on ENYA 20 motor. Not a few pattern should be drawn if I had made an entry to the contest.
