近く引っ越しを控えた友人から、少し手伝ってほしいとのことで出かけた時のこと。

新居までは私のうさぎ号一台で向かうはずだったのですが、積み荷の関係で友人のクルマで向かうことになりました。

その友人のクルマは、なんというかとても汚らしく、車内に変な臭いのするタオルが干してあったり、ハンドルがカビてボソボソになっていたり、それにいつも散らかっていて、だから私は乗るのが嫌だったのです。

さて、荷物の積み込みが終わり出発する段になったとき、つい先日のタクシーの病院への突入事故の話題になりました。

一部では「床マットが重ねて敷かれていた」という記述もネットで見ていた私は妙にフワフワする足元が気になり見てみると、同じように二枚重ねられている状態でした。

次に運転席の足元を見てみると、あろうことかアクセルペダルの上に後載せのマットがかぶさっている状態でした。汚らしいクルマに乗せられて少し怒りっぽくなっていた私は、少しきつめの口調で友人に注意をしました。

すると「いつも乗っていて意識しているから大丈夫・・・」とかいう具合で、まるで危険性の認識がないのです。

まだクルマが動き出す前だったので、私は運転席の足元に手を伸ばし、床マットを引きずり出しました。

すると友人は「後でちゃんと直すから・・・」といってマットを奪い返そうとするのです。
私は、「外しても持っているとまた絶対に敷くから捨てた方がいい」と半ば強引に奪い取りました。

すると、「今日はゴミ出しの日じゃないから次回のゴミの日に自分で捨てるから」といってなおも激しく抵抗するのです。

車内でマットを引っ張り合って、その後しばらく押し問答になってしまいましたが、10分程かけて危険性を納得してもらった後、私が普段から出入りしている自動車ディーラーに寄って、産廃ボックスに一緒に捨ててきました。もちろん助手席側のマットも同じくです（後で取りに戻ることのないようにカッターナイフで切ってから捨てました）。

そして新居に向かいながら、子供のように抵抗した一部始終を二人で振り返り、「今にして思えば心のどこかでいつも運転しにくいって思っていたけど、せっかく買ったマットだから捨てられなかったけど、事故になる前に処分してくれて良かったと思っているよ」と反省してくれ、和やかで前向きな展開になりました。

しかし相変わらず車内は汚いのですが、とりあえず対外的に重篤な事故を惹起する要因の一つを排除できたし、これまで下に敷かれていた純正マットが色鮮やかに現れて、足元もさわやかになり、晴れやかに引っ越しの手伝いを済ませ、こうして記事にしています。

大切な友人の為だから、大きなお世話だとか、お節介だとか言われてもいいのです。

そういうのも荒野を目指すうさぎだから。
