Two unique-to-Canada derivatives of Mitsubishi Motors’ popular Lancer and RVR models have arrived in showrooms. New Black Edition price lines feature up to 13 unique styling touches, from bucket seats with red stitching inside, to exterior enhancements such as black-painted body and wheels, and unique “Black Edition” badging.
“There’s an undeniable, head-turning cool factor to our Black Edition versions,” said Don Ulmer, Senior Manager, Product Planning, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “We expect the Black Edition will provide a sales lift to our already popular Lancer and RVR models.”
True to form, the limited-production Black Edition price lines are awash in both subtle and overt touches of deep dark trim – along with contrast red stitching on interior surfaces and steering wheel. Canadian dealerships will be allocated 600 RVR, and 400 Lancer Black Edition models.
2017 Lancer SE Black Edition
Using the Lancer 2.0L SE FWD Limited Edition and 2.4L SE AWC Limited Edition trim levels as a basis, the new 2017 Lancer SE Black Edition compact sedan is available in three prices ranges – front-wheel drive with five-speed manual transmission (MSRP $21,698), front-wheel drive with Continuously Variable Transmission (MSRP $22,898) and All-Wheel Control with CVT (MSRP $25,198).
Black 16-inch wheels, upper grille and fender garnishes play on the theme dominated by coats of Tarmac Black exterior paint. Inside, the nearly all-black setting (including unique black headliner and roof pillar trim plus Piano Black trim) features splashes of red stitching on the front seats, steering wheel, gear-shift knob (CVT only) and armrest, plus a red pin stripe on the dash. Bright contrasts occur with the chrome inside door handles and aluminum pedals found in the Lancer SE Black Edition.
2017 RVR SE AWC Black Edition
The RVR SE Black Edition features the 2.4-litre, 16-valve MIVEC engine mated to the Sportronic-Continuously-Variable Transmission (S-CVT) for an MSRP of $28,698.
Black Edition treatment for the Mitsubishi RVR compact crossover differs in several ways from the Lancer theme. RVR features Labrador Black exterior paint, 18-inch black “GT” wheels (from the top-of-the-line RVR GT) and, below the already black grille, a black skid plate. Like Lancer, the unique RVR model receives copious interior red stitching, along with aluminum brake and acceleration pedals.
However, the Black Edition packages aren’t merely just cosmetic enhancements. Available for the first time in Lancer and RVR, both packages also include a 6.5” Smartphone link Display Audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™. As well, if dark, shadowy appearances aren’t proof enough of their unique place in the Mitsubishi Motors line-up, both RVR and Lancer receive a two-tone “Black Edition” badge below their rear nameplates.
