Mitsubishi Shogun checks in at London City Airport

LONDON City Airport has taken delivery of two new Mitsubishi Shoguns to be used by the Airfield Operations team.

The 4×4 vehicles will be relied upon in all conditions by the busy team, which manages and regulates the airfield, ensuring it is safe. Last year, the airport in the Royal Docks east of the City, catered for more than four million passengers, with 75,000 flights.

The vehicles have been specially fitted out to meet the team’s requirements by the Mitsubishi Specialist Vehicle Operations centre in Cirencester.

The latest arrivals join a Mitsubishi ASX crossover on the team’s fleet and the airport has already ordered a third Shogun.

Kevin Wincell, Airfield Operations Manager, said: ‘This is a growing airport and our team has to provide a safe and efficient environment for all airfield users. These vehicles will help us carry out our work, as we know we will be able to rely on them at all times. I’m delighted with the new models.’

Originally launched in 1982, the Shogun brought to the world a whole new breed of vehicle: a 4×4 that was tough enough to go where others feared to tread yet enjoyed the sort of sophisticated specification more normally associated with top-end saloons.

Needless to say, it’s changed and been updated since then, but it’s still a dyed-in-the-wool, no-holds-barred, authentic off-roader, built to outlast the opposition. Seventy per cent of all new Shoguns are bought by former Shogun owners, which just goes to show how impressive they are.
