The headline we've waited a lifetime to write on this website finally became fitting on Sunday, as the Magpies ended their 70 year wait for domestic silverware.
　
A jubilant Toon support inside Wembley and across the planet saw Eddie Howe's side take the game to the reigning Carabao Cup holders from the off and gain their reward in the closing seconds of the first half.
　
Contemplating two further trips to Wembley next week following his England call-up, Dan Burn rose highest to head home and put his side ahead amid total mayhem at one end of the national stadium.

To the list of successful Wembley captains reads Jimmy Nelson, Joe Harvey and Jimmy Scoular must now be added a trio of names in the shape of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles - our current armband wearer sportingly calling forward two of his predecessors for the all-important trophy lift.
　
Victory confirms European qualification for the Magpies next season, although they'll hope to improve on the Europa Conference League playoff this success brought them in the remaining ten Premier League fixtures.
　
And for Howe, it's a personal vindication after he vowed to learn the lessons of 2023's meek loss to Manchester United at the same venue.
