ドメイン「Ebola.com」、1,600万円で発売される
売れるんでしょうか？

社会的に大きな不安があると、それを元に楽して稼ごうとする人たちが現れます。米国ネバダ州のあるBlue String Venturesは、エボラ出血熱に対する不安をビジネスに活用することにしたようです。彼らはドメイン名「Ebola.com」を15万ドル（約1,600万円）で売りに出したんです。

「Ebola.comは、エボラ出血熱のワクチンや治療薬を開発している製薬会社、パンデミック・災害準備用品を販売する企業、または情報提供やサーヴィスの広告をしたい医療会社などにとって良いドメインとなるでしょう。」Blue String VenturesのJon Schultz社長は、CNBCに対しメールで語りました。

Schultz氏がビジネスパートナーのChris Hood氏とともにEbola.comドメインを購入したのは2008年だったようです。彼らは他にFukushima.comやBirdFlu.com（鳥インフルエンザ）、PotassiumIodide.com（ヨウ化カリウム）などなどといったドメインも所有しています。ヨウ化カリウムとはいわゆる「ヨウ素剤」のひとつで、バイオテロとか核攻撃で起こると予想される放射線による病気を防ぐとされる化合物です。

ちなみにSchultz氏によると、たとえば「Whisky.com」は310万ドル（約3億3,000万円）で売れていたりして、15万ドルという価格は「法外な価格ではない」そうです…。
