シリンダーヘッド（以下、ヘッド）の燃焼室回りをどうするか？
私はバルブを外して業者に面研を依頼するのがデフォルトだと思っているが、そうすると以下のWillyHeckaslike氏の投稿のとおり、かえって問題を引き起こす可能性がある。

The heads and the blocks were heat treated, the process consisted of a minimum four-hour heat soak at 525-545 degrees C followed by a hot quench. The process was therefore applied to all of the material and it is not just the HG mating surfaces that are affected. Given that all of the material is heat treated skimming will in no way affect the hardness value but it may uncover porosity within the head which in turn may lead to leaks and/or HGF.

Rover got round the porosity problem by developing its own method of skimming the heads and the method effectively kept any porosity hidden beneath the surface. Few if any reconditioners will be aware of Rover's special skimming method and I doubt if any will be able to replicate it. This is the reason why skimming was not recommended and it is also the reason why many K-Series gurus peen the fire-ring area before having any ESSENTIAL skimming done.

そこでPeening k series cylinder headsというBBSでrrobson氏が投稿したように面研の前にファイヤーリング周りを鍛えることが必要になる。

私のCATERHAMに載っている今のチューンドエンジンのヘッドは何もせずに面研しただけ。
いずれヘッドガスケットトラブルが起きるのだろうか？それとも特注のヘッドガスケットのため問題ないのだろうか？

その一方で、Modus cylinder head fire ring modificationという解決方法もある。
Modus社によれば、燃焼室周りにリング溝を掘り、そこに強化されたリングを圧入するというもの。


ネックはやはり価格で、イギリスまでの往復分の送料や関税もかかる。

さて、これらをスペアエンジンにどこまでやるかやらないか・・・。近いうちにスペアエンジンOH計画を発表したい。
