About explanations for something

About explanations for something
"Why do elephants have long trunks?"

If you`re asked such a question by children ,how do you answer for them.
Come to think of it,it`s difficult to explain the reason why because we don`t know why their trunks are long as well.
Do you really know the reason?

Needless to say, we know that elephants`trunks are long.
We are learned about this obvious fact at school,at zoo or else.
But it seems to be difficult for us to let children persuade for our answers clearly.

On the other hand,it`s easier why giraffes have their long necks.
For example,you may answer like that:
"Because they need them to get some leaves on the tall tree`s branches."
In that case,the answer is concrete and therefore easy to understand.

When we are asked various questions it`s better we have some concrete examples to explain of cause of something.

By the way,if you went to the ancient African tribe`s villages who never brush their teeth,do you think you could make them brush their teeth on the toothbrushes to clean?
And if you were succeed,is your advise right?
We may need to think about cultural differences,relativism or else.
